Spotlight on Business: Todo Un Poco

The Laguna West area of Elk Grove houses one of the most unique and interesting restaurants in town, Todo Un Poco.  The term Todo Un Poco translates to “a bit of everything” which really covers Marie Mertz’s unique restaurant.  The restaurant specializes in Mexican food (traditional and nuevo styles), Italian food, and a fusion of the two.  There are also a few dishes sprinkled in with other ethnic influences like a Punjabi (East Indian) Pizza.  They have cocktails, appetizers, a kids menu, and desserts as well so their name is very suiting.  They also do catering and parties on site.

Marie Mertz was one of the first people to introduce fusion food to Elk Grove starting her concept in 1998.  Her creative spin on food yields really interesting food like Pasta Jalisco which combines spaghetti and carnitas or Mexican Lasagna with tomatillo salsa, carnitas, sour cream, and quest fresco.  They also have a variety of pizzas that you won’t see at the pizza parlor like Chile Verde or Steak and Pesto pizza.  For those with less adventurous taste buds, they have traditional Mexican dishes like tacos, enchiladas, flautas, etc… and traditional Italian dishes like spaghetti and lasagna.

While the Dia de los Muertos theme and the dark ambiance may make Todo Un Poco seem like a date night restaurant, they are striving to become an affordable everyday dining experience.  They have some really good specials for most days of the week:

-Mole Monday: They have chicken mole and a mole pizza.

-Taco Tuesday: 2 taco dinners and 2 house margaritas for $25

-Wine Wednesday: Wine specials starting at $5 and a free appetizer if you purchase a bottle of wine.

-Thirsty Thursday: Happy Hour starts at 5pm.  Wine specials and a drink of the day special.

They sometimes have specials on the weekend too which can be found on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TodoUnPocoBistro/).  Often on Sundays, they have a Sunday Supper special like 2 plates of pasta and 2 glasses of wine for $30.  They also have lunch specials for around $10 for a quick lunch during the workday.

While the name Todo Un Poco refers to the food of the restaurant, they are now transcending the meaning to bringing you food for all different times, occasions, events, and price ranges.  Check them out next time you are looking for a unique and fun dining experience!
