Alert resident helps Elk Grove Police catch suspicious suspect with loaded handgun

 

An alert resident contacted Elk Grove police regarding suspicious occupied vehicle in the 10100 block of Swann Way, shortly before 7 am Thursday morning.  Officers arrived and observed the man sitting in the vehicle and noticed a handgun on the center console. Officers instructed the suspect, 19 year old Darrell Bankhead, of Sacrament, to exit the vehicle, where he was detained. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded handgun that was not registered to the suspect. Bankhead was arrested and charged with a felony for possessing a loaded firearm registered to another person, and a misdemeanor of having a concealed firearm in the vehicle. He is being held on $10,000 bail.
