Two Sacramento police officers were shot and the suspect killed in an early morning shooting in south Sacramento.

The shooting took place about 11 a.m. in the 3300 block of 27th Avenue, near Franklin Boulevard.

Officers were attempting to stop a man that was wanted in connection with a double homicide from last week. Two women were found dead on Friday night

Officers picked up a hit on the vehicle through their PODS camera surveillance system. Officers conducted a stop of the vehicle. The driver through keys out the window, then exited the vehicle and began shooting. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

Two Sacramento police officers were shot by the suspect. One officer was shot in the leg and the other shot in the chest. That officer was wearing a bullet proof vest. Both officers suffered non life threatening injuries.

Many local law enforcement officers were attending the funeral of Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputy Robert French who was killed last week in a shootout with a suspect that was also killed.  Some officers left the funeral to assist with the shooting investigation.
