Elk Grove Police arrest suspect for making home made explosives

Elk Grove police have arrested the man responsible for the incident Tuesday night that led to an Elk Grove street being blocked and residents evacuated for hours.

According to police, they received a phone call at 5:41 pm about a possible kidnapping in 8800 block of Mandalay Way.  The call came from someone in the home.  According to the caller the husband was possibly armed and was kidnapping his wife. Officers arrived within 5 minutes, but the man and the woman were already gone. While in the house, Elk Grove police officers found at least one suspicious, possibly explosive device in the home.  Shortly before 7 pm the street was blocked off and nearby residents were asked to evacuate as a precautionary measure.

The Sacramento Sheriff Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) responded to the location and determined that the devices were in fact live. They removed and disposed the devices.  Residents were allowed back in their homes before midnight.

Around 9 pm officers were able to track down the husband and wife on South Watt Avenue. Both were detained as officers investigated the situation. It was determined that the husband did not kidnap the wife.  47 year old Edward Henderson was arrested and is being held in $510,000 bail. The charges on Henderson are listed below.
