Victim helps police catch purse thieves

On Thursday afternoon a woman helped police catch thieves that stole her purse out of her car. The incident happened around 3:30 pm in the 5100 block of Ocean Lane. The victim saw a vehicle driving away and noticed her purse was gone.  Shortly after that, the victim received a notification from her bank of fraudulent use at a local shopping center. She located the vehicle she had seen driving away from her residence, in the shopping center parking lot and called police.

Responding officers arrived and made contact with the suspect vehicle which was occupied by Santini Mercado-Vera, 29, (Sacramento resident). A records check revealed Mercado-Vera to be on probation and had an active warrant out for his arrest. A search of Mercado-Vera person led to the discovery of a controlled substance and narcotic paraphernalia. While officers were detaining Vera, Aimee Ford, 35 (Sacramento resident) and Nicole Silver, 33 (Elk Grove resident) returned to the suspect vehicle from a business in the shopping center. A records check revealed both Ford and Silver had active warrants out for their arrests. Further investigation also found Ford and Silver were in possession of the victim’s debit card and had used it at a business. All three suspects were arrested and then transported to the main jail.
