Cosumnes Firefighters to “fill the boot” on Saturday

This Saturday, April 21, firefighters from the Cosumnes Fire Department will be raising money for charity by “filling the boot.”  This is an annual fundraiser by firefighters to raise money for the Firefighters Burn Institute.  Firefighters will be on the corner of Bruceville Road and Laguna Blvd, between 9 am and 4 pm.  They will use boots to collect money from drivers stopped at the stop lights.  Facebook users can follow the event on Facebook.

The Firefighters Burn Institute was established in 1973 after a plane crashed into Farrel’s Ice Cream Parlor, claiming the life of local firefighter Gene Lavine, and 8 members of his family.  The UCDMC Regional Burn Center opened in 1974 as a result of work between local firefighters and UC Davis doctors and administrators.

All donations, big or small, will support the Firefighters Burn Institute and assure the best possible burn treatment and recovery programs are available in Northern and Central California. Programs include burn treatment, rehab cost, therapy, counseling, housing out-of-town families when needed, and sending burn survivor children to camps so they can connect with other kids who have experienced the same tragedies. This support is vital as the survivors navigate through their new life.
