Today the City of Elk Grove officially named local resident and business woman, Micha Zamora, as the new Health and Fitness Coordinator for the city.
Zamora who owns WarriorZ CrossFit along with her husband Charlie, will start in her new role on May 20. Earlier this year I talked to Zamora when she decided to apply for the position. She was excited to apply for job and felt she had what it takes to run the program.
This evening I sat down with Zamora again to talk about her role and what it means to her. Even after having worked all day coaching, her eyes lit up and there was excitement in her voice as she talked about taking on this new position. Zamora said “I am excited to work with the city of Elk Grove and be in charge of the fitness for all city employees, including police officers. I want to increase participation in the wellness program by all city employees. I plan to be 100% involved in the program and participating in events with the employees. I want to tailor the programs to fit their individual needs. I plan on leading by example and showing them that there is more than one style of working out. There will be cross fit style classes, yoga, pilates and more. I plan on walking around the city departments, getting people fired up and out of their chairs. Also showing them ways to train and workout in their own office if they can’t attend classes. ”
There will be a wide variety of classes to ensure everyone feels included. I plan on walking around the city departments, getting people fired up and out of their chairs. Also showing them ways to train and workout in their own office if they can’t attend classes.
Zamora said that she has been coaching for 8 years and during that time she has spent countless hours learning about health and fitness. She has a son that is 16 months old and said that she has learned to find time to work out and maximize her time. She isn’t able to work out as much or as long as she once did, but stressed it is about the intensity, not the length of the workout. She plans to bring that knowledge to helping city employees with their fitness needs.
