Mattress Firm considering bankruptcy

 

Mattress retailer Mattress Firm is considering filing bankruptcy according to several reports. The company has over 3000 stores and is the largest mattress retailer in the US.  Filing bankruptcy would allow the company to close stores and renegotiate leases.

 

The company bought out popular local mattress retailer Sleep Train in 2014. The local stores kept the Sleep Train name until 2017.  Mattress Firm was sold to a South African company, Steinhoff International Holdings in 2016.  The company has struggled in recent years, and lost one of it’s biggest suppliers, Tempur Sealy International.
