Last night several Elk Grove residents spoke at the city council meeting to ask the council increase the number of police officers in the city. Elk Grove has the lowest number of officers per capita of any city in the Sacramento area. Elk Grove resident Nathan Champion has been a vocal proponent of adding more officers and recently wrote an article for Elk Grove Laguna News on the subject, Increasing the size of the Elk Grove Police Department.
Champion presented his case to the council. The council appeared to be receptive to the idea that more officers are needed. EGPD Police Chief Bryan Noblett also weighed in and stated that the department is running out of room. Currently the city is adding 4 officers per year. The council asked Chief Noblett to come back at a later date with a report on the state of the police department.
