Franklin Blvd closed south of Twin Cities due to unsafe bridge

Franklin Blvd has been closed, south of Elk Grove between Twin Cities Road and Desmond Road by Cal Trans and Sacramento County.  Cal Trans engineers will inspect the bridge on Monday and determine whether the bridge can be repaired or needs to replaced. During the closure drivers can use Bruceville to detour around the closure. Bruceville runs between Twin Cities and Desmond.

A link on the Sacramento County Department of Transportation website shows the bridge is scheduled to be replaced sometime in 2020 at a cost of $11.3 million.  A study on the bridge was done in 2011.  If Cal Trans determines the bridge is unsafe the county may be forced to expedite the replacement of the bridge.
