Butte County Fire grows to 18,000 acres

 

The Camp Fire in Butte County has grown to 18,000 acres with no containment. The fire started around 6:30 am this morning near Camp Creek Road near Pulga. The Butte County Sheriff Department has issued evacuation orders for several towns in the area, including Paradise, Magalia, Concow, Yankee Hill and upper Butte Creek Canyon.  Several major roadways are closed in the area.

Media outlets have reported that several structures have been destroyed. Some residents have had to abandon cars and leave on foot.  The rapidly spreading fire has been pushed along by strong north winds in the area. Smoke from the fire can be seen in the Elk Grove area. The Cosumnes Fire Department and Elk Grove Police Department have sent resources to help with the fire.  PG&E said there are 32,000 customers without power due to the fire.
