Elk Grove police arrest man suspected of attempting to burglarize multiple homes

Early Saturday morning Elk Grove Police officers arrested a man they said attempted to burglarize several homes in the Elk Grove area.  In a post shared on the EGPD Facebook page,  EGPD PIO Jason Jimenez said:

Saturday morning, a resident in the 8600 block of Spring House Way was sleeping and was awakened by the sound of his side gate breaking. The resident, looking to see what caused the commotion, found a subject, later identified as 23-year-old Deashawn Stevenson of Elk Grove, trying to get into the residence by checking the side garage door and windows. The resident yelled at Stevenson to get off of the property. Stevenson fled the backyard and was observed by the resident in the front yard. Responding officers later located and detained Stevenson in the area. Stevenson was arrested and then transported to the main jail.

A short time after Stevenson was booked into the jail, officers responded to a report of an attempted residential burglary that had occurred earlier in the morning. A resident in the 8700 Summer Sun Way checked her video surveillance after hearing a loud noise on the side of the house earlier in the morning. On the surveillance footage, a subject was observed trying to get into the garage by the side door but the door was locked. The subject then looked through a bedroom window. The subject then jumped back over the fence and left on foot. Officers identified the suspect in the surveillance video as Stevenson.

In all, Stevenson was arrested for two counts of attempted burglary and prowling. Thankfully for these residents, they had their doors locked. Remember to check to make sure your house is locked up before heading to bed at night.

Earlier this morning prior to the announcement of the arrest, Elk Grove Laguna Forums received two videos from a resident in the same area that showed the same man entering his backyard and trying to gain access to his home.  The videos were shared on Elk Grove Laguna Forums and other social media sites.  The video was viewed more than 10,000 times in four hours.

Stevenson has two previous arrests in the last 16 months
