On Tuesday Side Burn BBQ held their grand opening at their location in Elk Grove at 5110 Laguna Blvd, next to Bel Air in Laguna. The location was formerly the site of Dickey’s BBQ. The local franchise owner, Jared Katzenbarger, owns 7 of the former Dickey’s locations in the greater Sacramento area and decided to start his own brand.
I talked to Katzenbarger about his plans with this new endeavor and how Side Burn BBQ will be different than other BBQ places. Katzenbarger said that he plans to work with local growers and offer responsible farm to fork food choices. He highlighted some of the area businesses he will be working with like Harris Ranch. Harris Ranch will be providing their certified Angus Beef, that according to Katzenbarger is “3 or 4 levels higher than other BBQ restaurants. ” Other area growers include Petaluma Farms Chicken, Silva Sausage, Max’s Breads and MiRancho, a company that is opening up a production facility in Elk Grove. They will also use local produce when possible. All packaging is made in the USA. In addition to national name beers, they will have local craft breweries too. Even the wood used to smoke the meat is locally grown Applewood
He also said that Side Burn BBQ will not be a Texas BBQ or Kansas City style. He emphasized that it will have a California flair from their sauces to options like burritos that most BBQ places do not offer. He also stressed that most of their sides will be made from scratch, like their corn bread and beans. .
They will have some weekly specials like kids eat free on Sunday (restrictions apply), Tri Tip Tuesday and Beef Rib Saturday.
Side Burn BBQ will be hosting grand openings at all 7 area locations during the month of December. They will be offering $2 pulled pork sandwiches and giving away $500 worth of gift certificates. If you missed the Elk Grove opening, you will have 6 other chances to win.
