Two arrested in Friday’s shooting at Winco

The Elk Grove Police Department issued a press release this afternoon regarding the shooting that took place last Friday morning at Winco in Elk Grove

ELK GROVE, CA – The Elk Grove Police Department has arrested the persons
responsible for a shooting in the parking lot of WinCo Foods (8142 Sheldon Rd.) that occurred two days ago.

On Friday, December 28th, at approximately 4:56 a.m., two suspects were exiting the store when they had a very brief verbal exchange with the victim. The victim, a 15-year old male, and his group proceeded to walk to their vehicle which was parked in the middle of the parking lot. The suspects got into a white Toyota sedan and drove towards the victim
and his group as the group was reaching their vehicle. The Toyota sedan stopped and then the driver, wearing a grey and black-colored sweatshirt with “Cali” on the front, exited the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the victim and shot him. The suspect then got back into the driver’s seat of the Toyota sedan and fled westbound through the parking lot.

On December 30th the Elk Grove Police Department arrested a 17-year-old juvenile from Sacramento after he turned himself in at the Elk Grove Police Department.

This afternoon, with the assistance of the Sacramento Police Department, the Elk Grove Police Department arrested 21-year-old Davonntay Jones-Carnes of Elk Grove in the La Riviera Drive area of Sacramento.

Both suspects have been charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. The juvenile was transported to juvenile hall. Jones-Carnes is in the process of being transported to the main jail. Jones-Carnes’s booking photo will be made available once he is processed at the main
