EGPD investigating assault on Friday and purse snatching on Sunday night in Elk Grove

Elk Grove police made one arrest in an assault that took place on Friday and are investigating a purse snatching that took place on Sunday night.

The Friday night assault took place around 4 pm on Friday afternoon. A victim was walking in the area near the 9000 block of Vicino Drive, near Laguna Creek High School, when they were approached by two suspects. The victim was punched by Suspect #2 (unknown black male juvenile) and then fled on foot. Suspect #1 (black male juvenile, age 16) pursued the victim, throwing the victim to the ground and then punching and kicking the victim, causing visible injuries.

Officers responded to the scene and located Suspect #1, who fled the scene on foot. A helicopter from a nearby agency was on scene to help try and locate the suspect. Several streets were closed during the search. Suspect #1 was eventually found in the nearby neighborhood, taken into custody and transported to juvenile hall.

The second incident took place Sunday night in the 9100 block of East Stockton Blvd around 10 pm. The victim was walking to her car when the suspect, described as a white male, age 20-30, approached her and stole her purse. The suspect then fled across the street to an awaiting car. The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The getaway vehicle was described as a white sedan.
