Elk Grove police ask for help catching purse thief

The Elk Grove Police Department is asking for the public’s help catching a man who broke into a vehicle and stole a purse.

The incident happened on Tuesday, January 29, around 6:30 pm. The stole a purse and then used the credit card shortly after that. Police obtained photos from the store surveillance camera.

Do you recognize this guy? On January 29, 2019, around 6:30pm, the victim parked her car in a parking lot in the 3400 block of Laguna Boulevard. The victim locked her purse inside the trunk of her car. An unknown suspect(s) shattered a window on her car to gain access to the trunk and stole her purse which contained her credit cards.

Within a half hour of parking, the victim’s stolen credit cards were used at the store in south Sacramento (where the suspect and his vehicle were captured on surveillance video).

The suspect appeared to be a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s to mid-30s, 5-09 to 6-00 tall, about 200 pounds. He had dark hair which was closely shaved and a faint mustache and goatee. He had clear glasses. He was wearing a black with red trim Chicago Bulls #33 jersey, blue jeans, and red shoes.

The suspect vehicle was a black SUV with chrome molding on the side and black wheels. The SUV appeared to have a luggage rack, and the right front fender looked to have black primer paint.

Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Tips can also be sent via SMS text message by entering CRIMES (274637) on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 (agency identification number) and the message.
