Gas prices could reach $4 mark this month

Gas prices continue to climb in California and are expected to top $4 this month for the first time since 2014.

According to AAA, the average price per gallon in California is $3.80. That is up 50 cents in the past month. The national average is $2.74, up 28 cents in the past month. Gas prices in the Sacramento area are averaging $3.68. One year ago the average price of a gallon in California was $3.52.

Marketwatch reported the surge in gas prices is due to refinery outages and low supply of the cleaner Summer blend gasoline. Gas prices are not expected to drop anytime soon. On July 1, the increase in California’s gas tax will add another 5.6 cents to the cost of a gallon of gas.
