From the Elk Grove Police Department Facebook page:

Friday night around 11:30, officers responded to a call regarding a large party with shots fired in the 8900 block of Gables Mill Place. As officers arrived on scene, many of the party goers were leaving the area or had already left. Officers did locate evidence at the scene of shots being fired.
While officers were on scene gathering information, officers were notified that prior to their arrival, a victim was transported to a local hospital by friends to be treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Based on the investigation, what we know at this time is the host of the party had rented the residence through a short-term rental website. During the party, there was a group of people standing in the front yard of the party residence when an African American male, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, approached the group and started shooting at them. Someone in the group shot back at the male in the red hooded sweatshirt. It was during this time; the victim, who was walking towards the party, was struck in the leg by a stray bullet.

A parked vehicle and an uninvolved residence were struck by the gunfire.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
