According to post on a private neighborhood group on Facebook by Mayor Gary Davis, Barnes and Noble and Dick’s Sporting Goods is coming to the Ridge Shopping Center project by the proposed Costco in Elk Grove. I was skeptical of Dick’s coming here since they are opening up a store in Delta Shores by I-5 and Cosumnes River Blvd, but with Sports Chalet and now Sports Authority closing all their stores, the market is wide open here for a sporting goods store. A lot of people have been asking for a book store since Borders closed a few years ago. Barnes and Noble is also opening a store in Folsom too. Sounds like they are expanding.

Everyone knows by now that Dick’s will take over the Sports Authority location in the Sprouts shopping center. There is a sign at the front entrance saying that they will open for business tomorrow, Nov. 21.

Not sure. Gary Davis posted it months ago. I think he said by the new Costco. Not to be confused with the mall, casino, aquatic center, veteran’s hall, Senior Center, Elk Grove Sports complex, or any other unfinished project in the city. 🙂

I can’t find any confirmation on BNN. Gary typically would not put something out unless there was something there, though. They may be one of the junior stores near Costco, there are just a handful so far.

    Cough, Cough! Are you sure?

He did say Dick’s was coming to the Ridge Shopping Center, so that was wrong. There’s quite a list of his saying things that don’t happen.

Because it doesn’t happen doesn’t mean it wasn’t in the pipeline. Not to defend Gary or anyone else, but deals crater at the last minute all the time. Still, BNN is hardly on an expansion kick. Their outlook is to further reduce stores, not expand the chain, and Elk Grove doesn’t seem like a prime market for them regardless.

I think we should just add more Walmarts and Targets, or anything else that is cheap. maybe some more dollar stores too. I think a book store is a money loser here. Unless it’s something small.

That who is out there expanding now in hard and soft goods, and about all that’s out there (well not Target).

    I agree.

I think we should also just include more McDonalds, and a couple more nail bars.

People don’t read in Elk Grove. They rely on social media and Google. eye rolling
