We are experimenting with some new ads on the website. We did have the smaller add up in the header and then a larger one at the footer of each page. There was also an ad on the first post of each topic. I removed the ad from the first post, increased the size of the ad in the header and added another ad just below the header. In looking at the analytics from Google, the ad in the footer of the pages was getting some clicks but the other two weren’t. The previous one in the header was smaller and was text only, no pictures. Now we went to an ad with text and graphics because that gets better response. We will try this the remainder of the year. Hopefully the won’t be too intrusive.

In the meantime, feel free to click on some of the ads. We get paid per click. πŸ™‚

do we all see different adds according to our habits or based on the wording on the forums?

I strongly suspect the ad server is aware of who we are at some level.
It also notices what’s being dished up on the page.

DocS: Part of what enables me to skip past your ads is that little arrow link on the home page that lets me jump to the point of a thread where I left off. That is usually in the middle somewhere, thus there are no ads in sight. I will run into the ad at the bottom if I read through the posts and respond, but that exposure is very brief because I can respond to posts with the reply and reply with quotes buttons.

Many other sites will insert ads every ten posts or so in order to deal with those of us who jump past the usual locations. I don’t know how much control you all have over this site’s details, but if the ads are small enough that approach isn’t too annoying. 8)

I don’t want it to be too intrusive. We got rid of the first post ad. That was annoying if you were any this of mobile device.

I believe the ad that used to appear in the first post was somewhat based on each user or the thread topic.

After one day we did have better results according to the analytics. The ad that did the best was the one below the header, the square ad that is on the left side. That one did the best of the 3 ads.

That’s because it kept showing me Macy’s and Toys r Us. This might cause some major damage over here πŸ˜‰

You also reminded us to click. :sarcastic

The only thing I don’t like is it looks asymmetrical with the EGL ad in the middle and the other add on the left. It would almost be better to add another ad on the right to balance out.

There does not appear to be a way to have the top ads on the same level. They are two separate locations, but can’t be next to each other. The top banner ad for our local businesses can be left, center or right, but it will still be on top of the other ad. I can do them both on the left so they are on top of each other. Let me know how that looks.

Are we to assume a sudden influx of Thai women looking for marriage in Elk Grove? That has been one of the prominent ads that I have seen. Ha ha.

So does it look better with the ads both on the upper left on top of each other? I kind of think it does.

what the heck are you shopping for? That’s hilarious – All I’ve seen is Ethan Allen, Macy’s, Fisher Price, Kohl’s and Toys r Us. I need to google out a bit more. I am getting a few of the car ads, but I think they know I need a new car πŸ™‚

Ads look fine, I’m going to go shop

I’m getting new car ads (the Charger looks great but not in lime green), Cyber Monday, and Asian dating ads. They look great though. More balanced.

Today I got public record birth searches. I’m going to go search for drug and alcohol rehab places and see what happens. Maybe some Viagra to go with my Asian dating problem I have going on……

Grrr I hate ads! Especially those that cover parts of the page I am trying to view. I keep closing them and telling them to go away!

All I am getting are local ads……nothing as exciting as dating sites. LOL

Mine still look the same as before.

It seems like my ads fit my search pattern about 85% of the time and then they throw in the super freaky looking close up of a wrinkly old lady just to mess with me. πŸ™‚

I’ve been searching for purses, cheerleading bows and supplies, and some photos of naked men, all to get rid of the Asian dating ads (complete with a Thai one that allows live chat, thanks) and it’s not working. Still getting “secret prices for new cars” and dating sites. Both our cars are only just over a year old, and hubby would never by the cars that are showing up in the ads (Dodge Chargers and Jeeps).

The ads I’m seeing that fit actually include a couple of things I put on my amazon wish list in the past few days. I may have to try the naked men photos for research purposes though. Good thinking, newmom!

Just noticed this! Thought it was the wine! :sarcastic
Definitely geared toward the individual as I JUST shopped on the site of one of the ads and it is not a common one.
