Just a little information for anyone that has questions about Vehicle recalls:

    • Check for Recalls, And Check Back Often! – Sometimes you may not know if your recalled vehicle still needs to be repaired. You can look up your car on the website – http://www.safercar.gov/vinlookup – to see if it’s been repaired as part of a safety recall in the last 15 years. You can also call 1-888-327-4236 for more information. The website is continually updated, so it’s important that you check back periodically as the list of vehicles expands.

    • Get Recalls Fixed Right Away – If a safety recall is initiated, your manufacturer will notify you of the recall through first class mail and offer to fix it for free. If your vehicle is recalled, please call your local dealer as soon as possible to make an appointment for a free remedy. By fixing your safety recall, you have the power to save your life, and the lives of your passengers and other motorists.

    • Sign Up to Receive Recall Alerts – You can also sign up to receive email notifications from NHTSA about recalls affecting your vehicle make and model by visiting SaferCar.gov or downloading the SaferCar mobile app to have recall alerts sent to your phone.

    • Report Potential Safety Problems – Reporting a vehicle or equipment safety problem to NHTSA is an important first step to get the situation remedied and make our roads safer. If we receive similar reports from a number of people about the same vehicle, this could indicate a safety-related defect may exist that would warrant opening an investigation. Report your vehicle safety complaints on SaferCar.gov.

NHTSA has produced the video “Understanding Vehicle Recalls” to help consumers understand the recalls process.
