An Elk Grove man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly intentionally ramming into the back of an LAPD motor officer on Highway 5 in Southern California. The accident took place Wednesday morning. The suspect, Philip Newlyn, 28, from Elk Grove, fled the scene. He was later arrested and booked on charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
The officer was injured in the accident. He was not ejected or thrown from his bike. He was transported to the hospital and later released. He is described as a 28 year law enforcement veteran with 12 years on a motorcycle.
According to other media reports Newlyn is an army veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart after suffering a serious injury in Iraq in 2009.
