Elk Grove Police arrest driver after early morning pursuit

 

Early Tuesday morning Elk Grove Police were involved in a pursuit that lasted for just over 10 miles. Sacramento resident Mikhail Smeretskiy, age 63, was driving after dark with the headlights on. He failed to stop when contacted and then led police on the pursuit before giving himself up. Smeretskiy was on probation for a previous DUI. He was charged with:

  • evading a police officer,
  • violating probation,
  • driving under the influence of alcohol while on probation
  • driving a vehicle without a functioning, interlocking device, 
  • driving with a license suspended for DUI

S-1 (Sacramento resident) was driving a motor vehicle that was operating without headlights on during darkness. When an EGPD officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, S-1 did not yield and led officers on a 10.3 mile pursuit southbound on HWY 99. S-1 took the Elk Grove Blvd. exit then yielded in the 76 Gas Station parking lot. Upon contact, S-1 was detained and smelled of alcohol. A records check revealed that S-1 was on probation and that his driver’s license was suspended. S-1 was arrested then transported to the main jail.
