City of Elk Grove makes bid to host stage of Amgen Tour of California bike race in 2017

The city of Elk Grove has submitted a bid to host a stage of the 2017 Amgen Tour of California. It will be the 12th annual edition of the race. Several local cities including Sacramento, Davis, Auburn and Folsom have hosted parts of the race in the past. Last year Sacramento hosted the finish of the men’s and women’s race. Host cities are responsible for costs of the race including security and road closures, but also benefit from the influx of tourists who visit and spend money in the city.  The 2017 race will take place in May.
