World record eating champion, Joey Chestnut, retained his title. Winning for the second year in a row at Elk Grove’s Giant Pumpkin Festival. The winner was able to shovel in 19 lbs 6 oz during the allotted time. In second place with 16 lbs 11 oz was Carmin Cincotti. Chestnut won $2500 for winning the event. The two also competed in an eating contest Saturday in Toronto with Chestnut winning followed by Cincotti.
In the contest between two local football coaches, Laguna Creek coach Dan Davis beat Franklin High’s Marty Tomlinson, Coach Davis won and earned $150 for his school.
The weather threatened to make the event soggy with off and on showers, including just minutes before the start of the contest. The rain stopped, the sun came out and the pumpkin pie disappeared.
The pumpkin pies were baked by Elk Grove’s own Sinful Treats.
