Elk Grove to host part of Amgen Tour of California in 2017

Amgen Tour of California will holding a major announcement tomorrow morning in Elk Grove. A press conference will be held at 10 am at Elk Grove Park. Members of the Elk Grove City Council, Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors, and Amgen Tour officials will be on hand for the news conference. Paralympic gold medalist Jamie Whitmore will also be on hand.

The Amgen Tour of California is the largest road race in the United States. We reported back on October 1 that the city of Elk Grove had made a bid to host the event. The event will take place in May 2017. Last year Sacramento hosted the finish of the men’s and women’s race. Host cities are responsible for costs of the race including security and road closures, but also benefit from the influx of tourists who visit and spend money in the city.
