Updated 8:45 am. According police, they received calls shortly before 10 pm last night about a man in a white pickup driving erratically near Bruceville and Laguna Blvd. Minutes later, the pickup was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Elk Grove Blvd, east of Bruceville. It then collided almost head on with another pickup. Two other smaller SUV’s were also damaged. The driver of the second pickup suffered moderate injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The other two drivers suffered minor injuries. The wrong way driver then fled the scene on foot, across Elk Grove Blvd to the south side. According to police, the man took a defensive stance towards officers who deployed a taser. It was not successful due to the man’s heavy jacket. The man went to the ground and there was a struggle with officers as they tried to handcuff him. At some point officers noticed he was not responsive and began CPR. The man was later pronounced dead.
