The sobering reminder of teens and driving

Last night’s horrific accident on Elk Grove Blvd is yet another reminder of the dangers of teen drivers. A single car accident on Elk Grove Blvd left the Nissan 350Z in multiple pieces and one young man very lucky to be alive this morning.
The accident took place just before 8 pm and closed Elk Grove Blvd east of I-5 until almost 4 am while Elk Grove police investigated the accident. Police have not released any details of the accident at this time.
Elk Grove is no stranger to serious accidents involving teens throughout the years. It has seen its share of fatal accidents that have devastated the community.
One concerned resident contacted Elk Grove Laguna Forums last night and said there was talk on social media that this accident may have been the result of “drifting“. The resident also mentioned that there are teen driving clubs in Elk Grove. The resident mentioned that the teens meet in large parking lots like CRC, Sprouts and other areas. Races sometimes take place near Stonelake and on rural roads like Bruceville, Kammerer, Bilby and Franklin Blvd.
The Elk Grove police department has a program called Before the Impact in which they show the results of these horrific accidents to teen drivers. Sometimes they bring one of the actual cars to the schools.
Today one family is very lucky they are not waking up to a tragic death. We know from experience that it is just a matter of time before another family deals with a tragedy. If have any information regarding racing clubs or races, please contact the Elk Grove police department 916-714-5115 or online
