Elk Grove homeowner helps police catch two burglars

An Elk Grove homeowner made good use of modern technology to help police catch two suspects in an earlier burglary.

Shortly before 1 pm on Tuesday, Elk Grove police received a call of a burglary in progress at the 9400 block of White Horse Way in Elk Grove (near Batey Elementary School). The homeowner was home at the time and the burglars fled the home. Police arrived and set up a perimeter, but were not able to catch the suspects. The homeowner told police that a laptop was stolen and showed police video of the suspects.

Shortly before 4 pm, the homeowner called police to let them know that they had tracked the stolen laptop to the 8800 block of Bond Road. Police arrived and detained the two suspects, both of Elk Grove. 18 year old Christian Silva and a 15 year old juvenile were taken into custody. Silva was on probation. A search of his backpack turned up the missing laptop and marijuana. Police then conducted a probation search of Silva’s home and found the clothing worn by the suspects in the burglary.
