Shortly before noon today a bicyclist was hit by an auto near the intersection of Elk Grove-Florin and Sheldon Roads.  The bicyclist suffered non life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. Elk Grove police are investigating the accident.

The accident continues a dangerous trend for cyclists in Elk Grove. Earlier this month a bicyclist was killed in an early morning accident on Laguna Blvd. Last fall there were 3 teens on bikes hit in separate accidents after school year started in August.  At a recent Elk Grove city council meeting, bicycle safety advocates urged the council to do more to make the roads safer by extending bike lanes and adding more trails.  Two nights ago, City Councilman Darren Suen stated that he has had discussions with the public works department about extending the bike lane on Laguna Blvd.
