A man was arrested at Nugget grocery store for shoplifting at earlier assaulting someone at a nearby residence. According to Elk Grove police the man was involved in an altercation with someone he knew at a nearby home. The fight led to the victim needing to be transported to the hospital for their injuries.
Shortly after that, the suspect was observed shoplifting at the Nugget grocery store on the corner of Elk Grove Blvd and Bruceville Road. The loss prevention officer attempted to detain the suspect outside and the suspect resisted. When officers arrived the suspect was actively fighting with the loss prevention officer. Because of the resistance, a taser was deployed. Additional officers arrived on scene and the suspect was taken into custody.
Updated information. The suspect arrested was Diedrick Burnett, 41, of Elk Grove. The incident started at the 9400 block of Dunkerrin Way. Burnett had an altercation with someone he knew and he punched the victim several times before knocking him out. Then he went to Nugget Grocery store where he was eventually arrested.
Burnett has a history of arrests in the past 8 months.
