After many years of going through Old Town Elk Grove, the parade route for the Western Festival will be changed this year. The parade will now start near the intersection of Emerald Oak Drive and Elk Grove Blvd. It will head east on Elk Grove Blvd then turn right on Elk Grove – Florin Road, then right on Valley Oak Lane by Elk Grove High School and then into the parking lot of the high school. In past years the parade started at School Street in Old Town Elk Grove, and proceeded west down Elk Grove Blvd to Emerald Oak and then to Valley Oak Lane where it stopped at Elk Grove High School.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Western Festival Parade. The grand marshall will be long time resident John Zehnder. This year’s Western Festival will be held on May 5-7, with the parade on May 6 starting at 10 am. There will be carnival rides starting Friday night, May 5 and plenty of events over the weekend.
The Elk Grove Chili Festival has moved from Old Town Elk Grove to the Western Festival this year. There will be a BBQ cook-off, classic car show, an art show, a beer garden and plenty of live music over the weekend. For more information you can go to the Western Festival website.
