Man trying to sell iPhone assaulted and robbed by three men

A person trying to sell an iPhone agreed to meet the buyer last night at Monterey Trail High School after 11 pm.  The buyer approached the victim and brandished a handgun. Two other suspects exited the vehicle. The three suspects then assaulted the victim and stole his iPhone and other personal property. The suspects fled in a white four-door vehicle. S-1 was described as an AMA, 18, wearing a white shirt with jeans.

We contacted the Elk Grove Police Department for some tips on the best way to meet and sell items to strangers. EGPD Spokesperson Officer Chris Trim offered these tips:

  • Pick a public location or local police department (during normal business hours) to conduct transactions.
  • Don’t meet in secluded areas.
  • Meet during daylight hours.
  • If possible bring someone with you, try not to go alone.
  • Pay attention to your instincts and be willing to walk away if things don’t feel right.
