City of Elk Grove to purchase building in Old Town

The city of Elk Grove has entered into an agreement to purchase a vacant building in Old Town Elk Grove. The building located at 9676 Railroad Street, was built in the 1900’s and has been vacant for some time.

The city has agreed to purchase the building for $500,000. Escrow is expected to close in September if all goes as planned. Then the city will seek bids from developers for a possible restaurant or brewery at the location.

The 1.75 acre parcel is located just south of the planned Old Town Plaza. The plaza is the site of the weekly Old Town Farmers Market and events such as the Brewfest. The city is in the midst of improving the plaza. Stage one includes a bathroom and a newly paved area, which will be completed this summer.
