Arrest made in Monday night homicide in Elk Grove


ELK GROVE, CA – On July 3, 2017, at 9:07 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to the 7500 block of Elk Grove Blvd. (Avery Gardens Apartments) regarding a shooting that had taken place in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased individual in a parked vehicle. The name of the victim has not been released and identification will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.


While officers were at the scene conducting their investigation, a local area hospital called to report that a male with gunshot wounds had just arrived. EGPD officers and officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to the hospital and contacted the injured individual, later identified as 27-year-old Citrus Heights resident Michael Jones.


Through investigative efforts, detectives determined that Jones was responsible for the homicide. Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, additional information is not being released at this time. After being medically cleared for incarceration, Jones was arrested for Penal Code 187(A) (Murder) then transported to the Sacramento County Jail for processing.
