Fall soccer season begins today

Today is the start  of the Fall season for most youth soccer leagues for both recreational and competitive clubs. Elk Grove is a hot bed of soccer talent, and most of the players on the top teams started out in recreational soccer, right here in Elk Grove. Players who make the choice to strive to play at the highest levels have many teams locally that are ranked nationally.

Over the summer two big accomplishments were made in two of the competitive leagues in the National Premier League (NPL).  To even obtain access to the NPL a soccer club must apply and be granted access to play into the league. The team must compete at a high level,  win tournaments, and league games to qualify. Then they must keep their play quality at the highest quality. The NPL is looked at a one of the highest levels of youth soccer is the United States.  The IR Academy of Soccer 02G Purple team played in a qualification series to fill an open spot in the ’02 division.  The girls won all three games, out scoring their opponents 15-3, to earn the clubs first ever National Premier League  team.

Another huge accolade for the Elk Grove Soccer community was the  FC Elk Grove 02G Platinum team. After competing against the best teams in Northern California in league play, they won the league Championship and went on to take 1st place in the entire United States for the 02G at the highest level of the National Premier League tournament.

The NPL is organized in groups of  20 to 24 teams per age group starting with  U14 age group and going up to the U19 age group for boys and girls soccer. There are only 360 teams total playing in the NorCal Premier League NPL Division.

This season Elk Grove will see six teams competing in the NPL for a chance to with the exclusive championship next summer. 5 teams are from FC Elk Grove FC Elk Grove 01B Platinum 1, FC Elk Grove 02B Platinum 1, FCElk Grove 04B Platinum 1, 99/00G Platinum 1 , and of course FC Elk Grove 02G Platinum will be  back looking to defend their title from last season.  And the previously mentioned IR Academy of soccer 02G will be looking to make a splash in their first year in the NPL.

It looks like there will be plenty of top quality soccer to be seen in town. As the popularity of soccer goes up, and our town continues to have multiple options for families, there has never been a higher caliber group of players than are in Elk Grove right now.

So as those little kids run out on the field this weekend whether it be their first recreational soccer game, or for the highest level NPL player, Good luck, have fun, and try your hardest.
