Sheriff’s Helicopter helps Elk Grove Police apprehend suspect

The Sheriff’s helicopter was instrumental in helping Elk Grove police capture a suspect during a high speed pursuit on Friday night.

An Elk Grove police officer observed a vehicle being driven without license plates and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. At one point the suspect intentionally backed the car into the driver’s side door of a police car.  The Sheriff’s helicopter joined in.  The pursuit lasted 19 miles before the car became inoperable due to a spike strip being deployed.  The suspect, 34 year old Jerry Kelley from Yuba City, was arrested. It was determined that he had an active warrant out for his arrest and the vehicle he was driving was an unreported stolen vehicle.
