2 CHP Officers and 1 Sacramento Sheriff Deputy shot in Sacramento motel

Two California Highway Patrol officers and one Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputy were shot this morning at the Ramada Inn  on Auburn Blvd in Sacramento.

The CHP, Sacramento Sheriff deputies and probation officers were working as part of a vehicle theft task force. Two adult females were seen getting into a stolen car and leaving the motel. Officers attempted to stop the car and a high speed pursuit ensued that eventually ended in the Elk Grove area around 10:30 am.  Lexi Valmores posted a photo on the Elk Grove Laguna Forums Facebook page of the end of the high speed chase.

Officers checked on other possible suspects in the room when a man opened fire through the door, striking two CHP officers.  Officers converged on the back of the motel and one Sacramento Sheriff Deputy was shot with a high powered rifle according to Sacramento Sheriff Spokesman Tony Turnbull.  The suspect then jumped from the balcony and fled in a vehicle, and eventually crashed, at which time he exchanged gun fire with officers.  The suspect was shot and taken into custody.

Officers believe there could be two more suspects in the hotel. Residents and hotel guests are being told to shelter in place as law enforcement agencies search the hotel for more suspects.

No word on the condition of the officers.  All three were taken to local hospitals.
