At least 50 killed and over 200 hurt in Las Vegas shooting

 

In what is now being called the largest mass shooting in US history, over 50 people were killed and more the 400 wounded late Sunday night.

Update 11:15 am: now 58 dead and over 500 injured.

 

The shooting took place at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.  The concert was held outside. According to police the shooter was across the street at the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino, on the 32nd floor. County singer Jason Aldean was on stage at the time. Dean and his band were not injured.

 

Las Vegas police and other agencies quickly descended on the scene. Officers used explosives to break into thx shooter’s hotel room. The gunman died at the scene and was identified by Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo as Stephen Paddock, 64. A motive was not immediately known. It is not believed to be terrorist related. Paddock was a resident of nearby Mesquite Nevada

 

Witbesses reported hearing what sounded like explosives towards the end of the concert. The music briefly stopped and then started again. The shooting lasted several minutes. Thousands of concert goers then attempted to flee the area as the shooting continued.

 

Update. Over 22,000 attended the festival. Death toll is expected to rise. Over 400 injured. The shooter died of a self inflicted gun shot wound. The shooter had no previous record. Over 10 rifles were found in the hotel room.  Officers are investigating the shooter’s residence in Mesquite this morning.
