Citizen helps Elk Grove police catch probationer for shoplifting

 

 

An alert citizen jumped in to help Elk Grove police catch a thief on Wednesday.

 

Elk Grove police received a call for a shoplifter at the Rite Aid, located at 9260 Elk Grove Blvd.  Officers tracked the suspect down and found him riding a bicycle westbound on Bond Road.  The suspect did not comply with officers demands to stop and continued riding.  When officers tried to stop the suspect, he continued riding. Officers gave chase and an alert motorist stopped his car and tackled the suspect.  The suspect got up and tried to run away again when officers deployed their TASER and took him into custody.  40 year old Willie Staten of Elk Grove was arrested.

 

Staten was found with the stolen merchandise and on probation.  He was taken to jail. He is being held on $630,000 bail
