Hello Elk Grove! Another week closer to the holiday that is centered around some the most delicious recipes of the year and I for one could not be more excited! With Thanksgiving right around the corner, many of us are too busy coordinating the hectic family get-together to even think about exercising the morning of or having to make healthy substitutes to your favorite side dishes. Well, let this blog be your reminder that there are many things you can do to maintain optimal health and avoid the dreaded holiday weight gain. Let’s breakdown some of Kaia FIT’s favorite tips for this time of the year.
The Elk Grove Gobble Wobble is a local race that takes place on Thanksgiving morning. There are quite a few reasons why this family-friendly tradition is becoming more and more popular throughout our community. This is a run/walk that happens yearly benefiting a great cause- Chick in Crisis. Starting your day with this fun event will help turn the focus of the holiday to your friends, family and what you’re grateful for rather than the big meal ahead. So whether it’s gathering your girlfriends together or spending time with the family before kickoff, be sure to make this race your new tradition. Although exercising is always a good idea, we can’t forget about what we’re putting in our mouths. Planning on whipping up some or all of the holiday dishes? Great! There are many ways you can keep things healthy while maintaining amazing taste. For instance, you can substitute butter and cream for heart healthy olive oil and swapping whole milk for reduced fat. Going into the meal, be fully aware that you have all the control on what you put on your plate. Make sure to take advantage of the fruit and veggie trays before heading into the meats and casseroles. Steer clear of the white simple carbs like bread and potatoes. Instead, enjoy sweet potatoes which are high in fiber and add natural sweetness without the sugar.
See you next week!
