This installment of our tour of Elk Grove parks, is about parks in the East Elk Grove area, specifically south of Elk Grove Blvd, between Waterman and Bradshaw. Our first segment was on Derr – Okamoto Park.
Al Gates Park is located at the corner of Mainline Drive and Black Swan Drive. The park features a play area with swings and slides and a covered gazebo for hosting parties or BBQ’s. There is also a soccer field and grass area nearby. Also near the park is a walking trail. A full loop of the trail is about 1.2 miles long. The trail heads toward Elk Grove Blvd near the strip mall on the corner of Waterman and Elk Grove Blvd. Bel Air is across the street. In the spring and summer when our kids are at Kovar’s Karate, I will often walk the trail there. Some of the trail is gravel. Most of it is asphalt.
Lewis Park and Strong Park are on opposites sides of the roundabout near Bel Air on Elk Grove Blvd. Lewis Park features a nice playground and two dinosaurs that kids can play on, as well as a covered gazebo and a large grass area. Our kids called this the “dinosaur park” because of the two dinosaurs.
Strong Park is across the roundabout and more behind Bel Air. There is a large soccer field, baseball field, a playground area modeled after a ship and also has a bathroom facility. Our kids called this the “ship park” because of the design of the play structure.
The third park is Miles Park. It is a fairly small park, on the corner of Mainline Drive and Nordman Way. The park consists of a large grass area, play structure and covered gazebo.
