The newest competition to help promote local businesses in the Elk Grove area started on April 1. The First Annual Elk Grove’s Best of Business voting will continue until April 30. The promotion is sponsored by Elk Grove Laguna Forums and the Elk Grove Chamber.
The new competition came about after there was some controversy involving another similar contest, Best of Elk Grove. That led to the contest being abruptly canceled. It was later reinstated for 2018. On October 10, 2017, the new Elk Grove’s Best of Business was announced in a joint statement by the Elk Grove Chamber and Elk Grove Laguna Forums.
The Elk Grove Chamber is the recognized business leader in the Elk Grove area, and Elk Grove Laguna Forums is the area’s most viewed social media page with over 33,000 followers. Thus far the competition has been a huge success with nearly 3000 voters in 10 days. Many local businesses have shared the voting on their social media pages and encouraged customers to vote. There are over 60 categories and voters are not forced to vote in every category.
Elk Grove’s Best of Business differs from other similar competitions in that the voting results are live. This was in response to complaints from business owners regarding the other Elk Grove competition that didn’t disclose the results during the entire voting period. Even the KCRA A List doesn’t give exact vote totals during the competition.
Also there is no advertising by outside businesses allowed on the voting page and the Elk Grove Chamber and Elk Grove Laguna Forums are not participating in the voting as entrants in the competition. Both entities wanted to eliminate any potential conflicts of interest.
The competition is a fun way for local businesses to compete and also help promote businesses in Elk Grove. Plans are already underway for improvements for 2019.
