Thursday’s grass fire north of Elk Grove caused by illegal fireworks

 

A grass fire that burned several acres just north of Elk Grove along Bradshaw Road was caused by illegal fireworks according to Sac Metro Fire.

 

Metro Fire has determined the cause of this afternoons vegetation fire on Bradshaw Rd near Calvine Rd was caused by illegal fireworks.  Please see the attached release for further information, and save the date for June 28 at 11:00 am for the Greater Sacramento Area Fireworks Task Force Press Conference for information on this years fireworks enforcement programs.

All attached images are of todays incident and the illegal firework product which caused this incident.  Only Safe and Sane Fireworks are legal in Sacramento County, and only between June 28 and July 5.

The fire started shortly before 3 pm on Thursday and was contained to around 15 acres.  The fire burned in a dried grass area between Calvine Road and Vintage Park Drive.  Sac Metro Fire along with Cosumnes Fire were able to contain the fire with the help of a Metro Fire Copter and bulldozer.

 

A nearby school was briefly evacuated during the fire as a precautionary measure. Students were never in any immediate danger. The fire did come within a few hundred feet of nearby homes on the north side of the fire.
