One person killed, seven injured in early morning DUI crash near Elk Grove

 

An early morning accident on Interstate 5 claimed the life of one person and sent seven others to the hospital. The accident took place around 2:40 am this morning on northbound Interstate 5 just south of Elk Grove, near Hood Franklin.

 

According to the CHP, a van was towing a trailer when it was struck by a Mazda SUV. The collision sent both vehicles out of control and into the center divide.  The van landed upside, with the trailer on it’s side.  The Mazda came to a stop near the van and trailer. The driver of the van, a 30 year old male from Colorado, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Six others, including two minors, in the van were taken to the hospital. Three with major injuries and three with minor injuries.

 

The  driver of the Mazda, Eunique Miracle Faith Lewis, 27 from Los Banos, was a taken to the hospital and then booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.
