Sacramento County to replace bridge at Elder Creek to eventually widen Elk Grove – Florin Road

Sacramento County will begin the replacement of the bridge where Elk Grove-Florin Road crosses over Elder Creek. The current bridge only allows for two lanes of travel.

The replacement bridge will allow for the eventual widening of Elk Grove – Florin Road. Construction will start in 2019. There is no date on the eventual widening of Elk Grove-Florin Road. The roadway is a major thoroughfare for commuters heading between Elk Grove and Sacramento. The area is a bottleneck from Gerber Road to Jackson Road with only one lane in each direction.

Project Description

This Elk Grove – Florin Road (Gerber to Florin) improvement project will replace the existing 2 lane bridge at Elder Creek to accommodate future roadway widening and Elder Creek channel improvements.

 Planned roadway improvements include:

  • Construction of bridge approach.
  • Construction of a 12-foot wide, raised landscaped median.
  • Construction of paved shoulders to accommodate bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
  • Replacement of the existing 2 lane bridge with a wider bridge to accommodate future developments.
