Case Update- Package Theft Suspect Arrested

On May 29th around 11:00 a.m., the victim’s surveillance camera caught a suspect drive up and park near the front of the victim’s residence (in the area of Rio Tejo Way and Stathos Drive). The suspect exited the vehicle and walked up to the victim’s porch where he took a package that had been delivered earlier in the morning. The suspect then drove off with the victim’s package.

The victim called us and we came out and took the report as well as collected the surveillance footage. Detectives assigned to our Property Division started looking into the case. Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to locate the suspect vehicle’s license plate and identified the suspect as 36-year-old Jason Baughman of Rancho Cordova.

Yesterday afternoon, with the assistance of our Street Crimes Unit, Baughman was located, driving the vehicle seen in the surveillance footage the day of the crime, in the Orangevale area. Baughman was stopped and taken into custody. A probation search of Baughman and his vehicle led to the discovery of methamphetamine, narcotic paraphernalia.

Baughman was transported to the main jail where he was booked on charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and a Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) hold.
