Elk Grove Police, FBI, determine church shooting threat “not credible”

The Elk Grove Police Department issued a press release regarding the threat against an Elk Grove church earlier this week. Working in conjunction with the FBI, the threat was investigated and determined to not be a credible threat.

From the Elk Grove Police Department:

The Elk Grove Police Department with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has determined the threat against an Elk Grove church not to be credible.    

On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, the Elk Grove United Methodist Church received a telephone from a male who stated he was going “shoot up the church.” The church immediately notified the Elk Grove Police Department and an investigation was initiated. 

With the assistance of the FBI, the caller was identified as a juvenile from Fairfield. Based on the investigation, we, along with the FBI, have determined the threat not to be credible. No criminal charges will be pursued. The Elk Grove Police Department takes threats to life seriously and will investigate them to the fullest.

The Elk Grove Police Department will still conduct extra patrols in the area tomorrow to reassure churchgoers they are safe
