Earlier this evening a bicyclist was struck and killed by a train on the railroad tracks by Bond Road. The roadway was closed for several hours while the incident was investigated
ELK GROVE, CA – On August 19, 2019 at 5:14 p.m., The Elk Grove Police Department responded to a collision involving a freight train and an unidentified male adult bicyclist in the area of Bond Road, east of Elk Grove Florin Road. The bicyclist was riding eastbound Bond Road, on the north side of the roadway as the train was traveling northbound when the collision took place. The bicyclist died as a result of his injuries.
According to witnesses, the railroad crossing arms and lights were activated and functioning, the freight train operator sounded the train’s horn and vehicles stopped at the railroad crossing were honking their horns as well. Unfortunately, the train was unable to stop and struck the bicyclist. Identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
