Teen detained at Elk Grove area school in connection with social media threat to Jesuit High School

Local media is reporting that law enforcement has detained a teenager at an Elk Grove area school in connection with a social media threat made against Jesuit High School. As a result, Jesuit and Rio Americano High Schools were placed on lockdown and El Camino high school and Del Dayo were placed on a shelter in place mode.

Sources have told Elk Grove Laguna Forums that the student attends Elk Grove Charter School. Investigators are trying to determine in the threat was valid.

The Elk Grove Unified School District issued the following statement:

Early this afternoon, the Elk Grove Unified School District’s Department of Safety and Security received information about a possible student posting a social media threat toward a secondary school site in the Sacramento area. EGUSD Safety and Security responded immediately to begin a threat assessment. The threat was general and vague and distributed to a wide audience.

Preliminary information indicated that the student had made the threat toward their previous non-EGUSD school. Further information quickly gathered by EGUSD Safety and Security quickly identified the student and their whereabouts within the District allowing law enforcement to take swift action in locating and detaining the student. Within minutes, the authorities had the student who posted the social media threat in custody.
